A few words on our experience of
winning the N. I. Junior Science Quiz - 2002.
by Daniel Howell
Benjamin McKillen, Philip Martin and I traveled to the competition with Mr O'Mullan. We were all a bit nervous and weren't exactly sure what lay ahead. We arrived at St Dominic's in good time and had an enjoyable and relaxing lunch with a few girls in the bistro.
We didn't get off to a good start. It took us a little time to settle down, but after several rounds we found that we were 8 points in front. At this stage we had a short break. With just 2 rounds left to go we new we were in with a shout!
However, we found the last two rounds considerably more demanding and certainly less suited to what we knew. The last round was particularly difficult where we had to identify elements from pictures. We were therefore held in great suspense while the judges totted up the scores.
Loreto had won! We
each got a nice pen and the school won a beautiful cut-glass bowl to be kept for
1 year.
We headed for home and Mr O'Mullan somehow got the wallet out - treating us to a celebratory Mac Donald's Meal.
On behalf of our team, thanks to all the science teachers who helped prepare us.
